Privacy Policy

1. Introduction
Cairn is a companion app for fathers, built to offer personalized guidance, activities, and support across the stages of fatherhood. Protecting the privacy of the fathers and families who trust us with their information is central to how we operate. This policy applies to everyone who uses the App or visits the Site.
The Services are operated by [Legal Entity Name], located at [Registered Business Address]. By using the Services, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information you provide to us
When you create an account and use Cairn, we collect the information you choose to give us, including:
- Account information, such as your first name and email address;
- Profile and household details you provide about yourself, such as your stage of fatherhood or general preferences;
- Journal-style entries, notes, milestones, mood and check-in responses, and other reflections you choose to record in the App;
- Photos and memories you choose to upload or save within the App; and
- Messages, questions, or content you submit to in-app features such as the “Ask Cairn” assistant, or communications you send to our support team.
2.2 Information about your child
Cairn is designed to be used by adult parents and fathers, not by children. As a normal part of how the App works, we allow you — the parent — to enter information about your child, such as your child’s stage or age, milestones, and notes or memories you choose to save. This is meaningfully different from a child using the App directly: your child does not create an account, does not interact with Cairn, and does not provide information to us themselves. You control what information about your child is entered into the App, and you may edit or remove it at any time. See “Children’s Privacy” below for more detail.
2.3 Information collected automatically
Like most apps and websites, we automatically collect some technical information when you use the Services, including approximate device type, operating system version, app version, crash logs, and general usage patterns (such as which features you open and how often). This may include standard mobile analytics and crash-reporting tools that help us find and fix bugs and understand how the App is used in aggregate. We use this information to keep Cairn reliable and to improve the product — not to build advertising profiles about you.
2.4 Anonymous device and session identifiers
The App uses certain non-identifying device and session identifiers for basic technical functions — for example, keeping you signed in, maintaining app state, and associating diagnostic or analytics events with a single device or session so we can debug issues. These identifiers are not used as a substitute for your account identity and are not combined with other data to build an advertising profile.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information described above to:
- Provide, personalize, and operate the App for your household;
- Generate personalized daily content, suggestions, and responses relevant to your stage of fatherhood;
- Maintain your account and let you access your saved memories, journal entries, and settings across sessions;
- Respond to your support requests and communicate with you about the Services;
- Diagnose technical problems, maintain security, and improve reliability; and
- Comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use the information you provide about yourself or your child for third-party advertising.
4. AI Processing
Certain features of Cairn — including the in-app “Ask Cairn” assistant and personalized daily content — are powered in part by a third-party artificial intelligence service provider (OpenAI). When you use these features, the relevant request content (for example, a question you ask, or the profile details needed to personalize a suggestion) is sent to that provider so it can generate a response for you.
We work with AI service providers to power certain features; these providers process the specific information needed to generate a response to your request. We do not use your data to train third-party foundation models beyond the standard processing needed to serve that individual request, and we do not permit AI providers to use your information for their own unrelated purposes.
5. Third-Party Service Providers
We share information with a limited number of third-party service providers who help us operate the Services, under contractual obligations to protect your information and use it only for the purposes we specify:
- Cloud hosting and infrastructure — we host the App’s backend, including account data and app content, on Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- AI processing — OpenAI processes the specific content needed to power AI-driven features, as described above.
- Analytics and crash reporting — we may use standard mobile analytics and crash-reporting tools to understand app performance and diagnose issues.
- Payments — subscription payments are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store; we do not receive or store your payment card details (see “Subscriptions & Billing” in our Terms of Service).
We do not sell your personal information to third parties, and we do not share it with third parties for their own advertising purposes.
6. Cookies & Tracking
Cairn is primarily a mobile app, and most of this policy concerns the App rather than a website that relies on browser cookies. This Site (https://www.withcairn.app) may use a small number of essential cookies necessary for basic site functionality (such as remembering your display theme), and may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate traffic to the Site, such as which pages are visited. The Site does not use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.
7. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active, so that Cairn can continue to work for your household. If you request deletion of your account (see Delete Account), we will delete your personal information within the timeframe described on that page, except where we are required to retain certain records by law, to resolve disputes, or to enforce our agreements.
8. Data Security
We use industry-standard technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information, including encryption of data in transit and access controls that limit who can reach production systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to continually review and improve our practices. [If Cairn obtains a specific security certification such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001, reference it here.]
9. Children’s Privacy
Cairn is intended for use by adults — specifically, parents and fathers — and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly allow children to create accounts or interact directly with the App. As described in Section 2.2, parents may choose to store information about their child within the App (such as milestones or notes) as a core part of how the product functions; this information is provided and controlled by the parent, not collected from the child. If you believe a child has created their own account or has interacted with Cairn directly, please contact us at privacy@cairnapp.com so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
10. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information, including the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you;
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
- Delete your personal information;
- Port your data to another service in a structured, commonly used format; and
- Object to or restrict certain processing, where applicable.
You can exercise these rights at any time through our Data Request page, or by requesting account deletion directly through our Delete Account page. Residents of the European Economic Area, UK, and Switzerland have rights under the GDPR; California residents have rights under the CCPA/CPRA. We honor these rights for all users regardless of location, to the extent reasonably possible.
11. International Data Transfers
Our infrastructure providers may process and store information in countries other than the one you live in, including the United States. Where we transfer personal information across borders, we take steps intended to ensure it receives an adequate level of protection, in line with applicable data protection law.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you through the App or by email. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
13. Contact Us
If you have questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or how your information is handled, please contact us at privacy@cairnapp.com.
This policy is governed by the laws of [Governing Jurisdiction], without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where local law requires otherwise.
